The parade was celebrated on Sunday, September 21st from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.  It started on the corners of Pico Blvd. and Vermont Avenue and it ended at McArthur Park where there was music, food, arts and crafts and a 3-day street festival.  GAHFU, Inc. would like to thank the Garifuna community for having supported and marched with our float.

GAHFU, Inc. was present at the reception given to The Umalali Garinagu & The Garifuna Collective by the General Consul of Belize the Honorable Roland York at the California Plaza downtown Los Angeles.

The Umalali Garinagu in Los Angeles were welcomed by the Hon. Roland York and the different Garifuna non-profit organizations.  Umalali Garinagu are: Sofia Blanco, Silvia Blanco from Livingston - La Buga - Guatemala and Desiree Diego from Dangriga, Belize.  The Garifuna Collective are: Lloyd Augustine, Joshua Arana, Denmark Flores & Sam Harris from Belize and Chichiman Sosa from Honduras.  Road manager Alejandro C. The entire ensemble received City and State Senate recognition awards from the hands of Hon. York.

Dr. Oliver Greene's opening remarks during the Garifuna Symposium at Georgia State University.  The symposium took place from April 14 through the 20th, 2008 with special guests: The Garifuna Collective, Dr. Joe Palacio, Barbara Noralez, Dr. Michael Stone, Matthew Dougherty, Andrea Leeland, Greg Palacio, Jerry Catro, Cheryl Noralez, Rony Figueroa and many more.

Dr. Luther Castillo discusses with Cheryl Noralez the need for funding to pay for the equipment that will run the solar panels to be installed at the Ciriboya Hospital in Honduras.  The panels are packed are ready to be shipped to Honduras by road along with an ambulance to Ciriboya.  We need your donations to raise $17,500 for the panel to work with the batteries and other equipment.  Please click on the picture to see the slideshow.  When making your donation, please send us an e-mail or letter indicating that your donation goes towards this project.  Seremein wageira.

GAHFU's Operation La Bugana donated school supplies clothing and other equipment to the families in Livingston, Izabal - Guatemala.  Thanks to  Irma Sandoval, DJ Ervin Arzu, Cynthia Lewis and the Guatemalan community of Los Angeles for their donations.  We would also like to thank Mariano Gotay and Tomas Sanchez for taking charge in the distribution of the donations to the community in Livingston.  *La Organizacion GAHGU y su Operacion La Bugana dono utilez escolares, ropa, literatura y otro tipo de equipo medico y de trabajo para las families en Livingston, Izabal en el mes de Agosto 2006.  Gracias a DJ Ervin Arzu, Cynthia Lewis y la comunidad Guatemalteca en Los Angeles en general por sus donaciones.  Tambien a Mariano Gotay y Tomas Sanchez por recibir las cajas con donaciones y por ayudarnos a repartirlas a la comunidad Livingsteña.
